Fortune Business Directory

Fortune is an incorporated town near the western end of the Burin Peninsula, built along Fortune Barasway near the mouth of Fortune Bay. Its sheltered harbour, ocean fishery, local services, and ferry terminal for Saint-Pierre and Miquelon give the community both local and international connections.

Local context

The Town of Fortune describes a settlement arranged along a narrow coastal inlet where Fortune Brook meets the sea. European maps and fishing records used the name centuries ago, and permanent settlement developed around access to fishing grounds and the normally ice-free harbour. Fortune incorporated in 1946, after a long period in which the fishery, shipbuilding, mercantile firms, and local manufacturing supported the community.

Fortune is also the nearest Canadian port to the French islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, and the town hosts the passenger ferry terminal. That connection brings travellers through local roads, parking, accommodations, food services, shops, and marine facilities. The directory profile serves residents and peninsula visitors while recognizing that some searches begin with the ferry journey. Current schedules and border requirements should always be confirmed with the ferry operator or government sources rather than inferred from a business listing, especially during the seasonal passenger service period.
