Catalina is a harbour community on the east side of Trinity Bay, now a component of the incorporated Town of Trinity Bay North. The directory retains Catalina as a local profile because the name remains in everyday use for addresses, wayfinding, and community identity.
A 2004 provincial release announced that the towns of Catalina, Port Union, and Melrose would be disincorporated to establish the Town of Trinity Bay North effective January 1, 2005. The municipality's own website describes Catalina as Ward 1 of the combined town and records community history including the giant squid washed ashore there in 1877 and the province's first public library outside St. John's, which opened there in 1937.
Catalina is therefore a component of Trinity Bay North rather than a separate municipality, and municipal services, planning, and governance are shared with Port Union, Melrose, and Little Catalina. Keeping a distinct Catalina profile preserves the location language used in street addresses and local searches, while regional browsing connects the community with the rest of the Trinity Bay North shoreline and the wider Eastern discovery area. Accurate listings also help visitors distinguish Catalina's businesses from those in the town's other wards.
