Avalon Region Business Directory

Local context

The Avalon Peninsula forms the southeastern part of the island of Newfoundland and contains the provincial capital along with a network of urban, suburban, rural, and coastal communities. Provincial and Statistics Canada programs use several overlapping Avalon geographies for labour-market, census, planning, and community analysis. Their boundaries do not always match one another, so this directory uses a clearly labelled regional grouping rather than claiming a new administrative boundary.

For business discovery, the region connects the dense concentration of services around St. John’s with communities distributed around the peninsula’s bays and highway corridors. A regional search is useful when a service area crosses municipal lines or when residents routinely travel between nearby towns. Individual community pages remain the more precise choice for local addresses, governance, and place-specific context. This distinction is important because the directory’s Avalon label includes practical search relationships, while official programs may divide the peninsula differently for statistical, economic, or planning purposes.
